Evaluation

In my proof of concept I was aiming to produce a scene from my idea from my FMP . The piece I made was good with mostly clear and well composed shot however some of these shots were over exposed and the audio was very quiet and didn’t add anything to the film.

The camera work on the film is good as the first shots are well exposed and focused however the second shot is shaky and moves about a lot the isn’t good as the shot doesn’t look professional. This shot doesn’t look great but isn’t that bad in terms of ruining the film. The first close up of the main character’s face is over exposed and this means that the shot isn’t detailed or clear which means that shot is the worst in the film and could be much better if I had exposed the image better. The close up on the keys and the following shots where well composed and shot as they where in the right place and showed the right detail as well as the shots showing the right things. However the last shots don’t show the main character picking up the pick meaning that the audience doesn’t know what he is picking up and looking at but overall the film is well shot. When viewed by other people they commented that the film’s shots were well done but that some of them were shaky and could have been better.

The audio of the film is very quiet but is this is to portray the emotions the main character being lonely and sad. The sounds that do appear are the sound you wold expect to hear from a person walking round a house and provide the ambiance to the film. The sound on the film is all the audio recorded from the camera which could be clearer  by using a marantz kit to recorded the sound. The shots from outside of the house have had to be turned down slightly because of other sounds coming from different sources outside which contaminated the ambiance. A soundtrack may have helped the films emotional power and help the audience understand the film more. One viewer said that it “needed music” and another said it was “a bit quiet”. When doing the final film I will probably use a sound track to add to the films emotion and make the story more believable and engaging.

The film is well edited and the slow pace of the cuts and the black white colour grade gives the sadness and the emotions of the main character a more convincing and also gives the film a more old look as well as then adding detail to the shots and the different  expressions and the way the character walks about the house and just sits thinks and with the blacks and grey bring out the contours of the face and the detail that it brings out through this. The slow fade at the end also gives the sense of the of time passing and the mian character being lost in his emotions and not knowing how to express his grief at the loss of his family and the pain it is causing.

In conclusion the POC is well shot and edited and has some very clear and focus shots but the film has a few over exposed shots and could look better it places. The sound is very quiet and could be better but the feel of the film is good and is very atmospheric and has a said felling to the as a whole.
